  • "Today is the 51st anniversary of Roe v. Wade, a decision that enshrined reproductive freedom for women for decades. The overturning of Roe took away that freedom from women around the country. Congress has a responsibility to restore it." (x.com)

  • "Whether they're in blue states or red states, our tax code is rigged for the wealthiest households & corporations. The SALT bill would make it worse. So it’s a "No" from me. Call me when you want to tax the rich so Social Security will be there for our kids. Then we’ll talk." (x.com)
  • "Giving 100s of billions in tax breaks to the very wealthy should not be the tradeoff for lowering Rx drug costs, expanding Pre-K, and other programs for the working middle class. We can fix this, but lawmakers have to take a stand and demand it." (x.com)
  • "I objected — and continue to object — to the fact that the single largest part of this bill is a $275 billion tax giveaway to millionaires and the wealthy. Regardless of the net tax change, there’s no excuse for that provision being in this bill." (x.com)
  • Rated 12% by National Taxpayers Union (justfacts.votesmart.org)

  • "Fourteen years later, it's clear that the Citizens United decision has been one of the single most damaging blows to our democracy." (x.com)
  • "Eliminating qualified immunity for law enforcement officers could result in unintended consequences for both individual law enforcement officers and the profession as a whole. Even so, there is room for lawmakers to clarify the intent of Section 1983 to ensure that American citizens' rights are safeguarded while still ensuring law enforcement officers retain appropriate protections while on the job." (golden.house.gov)
  • "While I am concerned about eliminating qualified immunity entirely, I do believe there are reasonable criticisms about how the courts have interpreted the doctrine, and given its evolution in recent years, I believe that lawmakers or the Supreme Court may need to take another look at it. For example, I believe that the Court overreached in Pearson v. Callahan (2009), ruling that courts have discretion to focus only on whether the conduct in question was a ‘clearly established' violation of law without first considering if an individual's rights had been violated. In the years that have followed the Pearson decision, there is evidence that plaintiffs in excessive force cases have had a more difficult time getting past qualified immunity." (golden.house.gov)

  • "I opposed President Biden’s student loan forgiveness plan" (jaredgolden.substack.com)
  • "President Biden’s student loan forgiveness plan would have forgiven up to $10,000 in student debt for an individual making $125,000 ($250,000 for a married couple). That sets the income eligibility threshold way too high. The median household income in ME-02 is $56,000. I know there are people with crippling college debt that they simply can’t pay back, and I can see why a well-targeted loan forgiveness program might be in the public interest. But let’s not ignore the facts of the Biden plan: it would have transferred many billions of dollars of wealth to affluent households that are well-positioned to accumulate even greater wealth over a lifetime of work. In ME-02, only 29 percent of my constituents have a college degree, and only 18 percent would have qualified under the forgiveness plan. Nationally, 17 percent of adults have federal student debt, and nearly half of that debt is held by one-tenth of those individuals. According to a recent study, blanket forgiveness of $10,000 in student loans would have meant that for every $1 of student loan forgiveness that would have gone to the bottom 10 percent of households, $3.60 would have gone to the top 10 percent. That’s upside down, and it’s wrong – not one penny should go to anyone in the top 10 percent." (jaredgolden.substack.com)
