I believe a woman's healthcare choices are hers to make, with the aid of her partner, physician and spiritual advisor. Politicians have no business in a doctor's office or an individual's bedroom.

If Marijuana use is legalized in Maine, I would support taxing its use, in the same way we tax alcohol and cigarettes.

Yes i) Do you support an increase of the minimum wage?
Yes j) Should employers be able to ask about applicants' criminal history before interviewing them?
Many of these questions are situational in nature and it is impossible for me to say how I would respond without knowing specific circumstances. For example, homeowners who have experienced a severe and unexpected financial crisis, such as a loss of job due to a plant closing or medical issues, would warrant financial assistance enabling them to remain in the home they have been faithfully paying. However, if someone was convicted of a crime and was going to lose their home due to incarceration, I would feel differently. Not everything is either yes or no!
a) Do you support the national Common Core State Standards initiative?

Yes e) Do you support state funding for charter schools?

g) Should illegal immigrants who graduate from Maine high schools be eligible for in-state tuition at public universities?
I do not believe tenure or lack of merit pay produce ineffective teaching. Your questions around education ignore all of the societal issues and income inequality affecting teaching and learning in Maine today. As for illegal immigrants in Maine-anyone residing legally in Maine, should benefit from our public educational system. Unfortunately, some people presume all immigrants in Maine are here illegally, which is not true.

Yes a) Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
Yes b) Should background checks be required on gun sales between private citizens at gun shows?
Yes c) Should citizens be allowed to carry concealed guns?
Yes d) Should a license be required for gun possession?
I believe if we need a license to drive a car and need to pass a test for that license, that the same principle should apply to gun use. Both are dangerous in the wrong hands. I have a right to drive under certain conditions. If I meet those conditions, no problem. Same is true for guns.

Yes b) Do you support expanding access to health care through commercial health insurance reform?

d) Other or expanded principles:
Municipal revenue sharing has been drastically reduced over the last decade and this has led to a burdensome increase in local property taxes, necessary to providing local services. We need to provide real property tax relief, either thru restoring revenue sharing to its original 5% of collected state taxes or providing targeted help thru expanded relief directly to homeowners. Also, 55% of education funding needs to be provided by the state, paid by a tax on the portion of income above $200,000. Education is critical to ensuring the educated, skilled workforce necessary to attract good paying jobs to our state.
