Reason for Seeking Public Office:

We are truly blessed to be living in such a wonderful community. Cumberland and Hoke counties are home to brave warriors, caring medical professionals, exceptional educators, loving volunteers, and hard working neighbors. We are free to practice our religion, free to speak our mind, and can vote without being afraid. But despite our good fortune, we do have real issues that require real solutions.

The population in our community and state are growing at a rapid rate, resulting in new challenges. Unfortunately the state legislature seems to be more focused with what is best for the big cities like Raleigh and Charlotte instead of what is best for all of North Carolina. We have 20% of our neighbors, friends, and family members living in poverty here in Hoke and Cumberland counties. We have a transportation system that is inadequate in supporting the growth in our community. We have an education system with schools busting at the seams and few textbooks for our children. We have a healthcare system unable to satisfy the medical needs of our increasing veteran and elderly population. We have businesses drowning in taxes and bureaucracy that are preventing the creation of growth and new jobs. We have real issues that should not be taking a back seat to anybody. It is time for a fresh perspective and new leadership in order to tackle these challenges that continue to stack-up.

I want to serve the people of Hoke and Cumberland counties in the NC State Senate to ensure our children have a future with more opportunities and better quality of life than we have now. Each one of us wants a better life for our children and I want to represent you in fighting for that future.

My promise to you is:

I will fight for real solutions that will solve problems for the long term. I will not support short-term Band-Aids that look good in newspaper articles or in sound bites. My answer to a system that is broken will not be to throw more money at it. We need real solutions, not more frivolous spending.
My decisions will be based on what is best for our community and all of North Carolina, not just the big cities. Raleigh and Charlotte have their own representatives. My job is to fight for Cumberland and Hoke counties.
I will be accessible and visible. You will see me in community meetings, public events, churches, and public venues. Your representative cannot effectively do their job if they are not out in public. I will be eager to listen to your concerns and provide you with honest answers to your questions. This is how I will ensure that I am providing you with the best representation in the State Senate.
I care deeply about the place we call home and want to give back to a community that has given my family and I so much. It would be my honor to serve the good people of Cumberland and Hoke counties. I would appreciate your vote for State Senate this November and will represent district 21 with honor and dignity.
