Priority Issues:
For the Health of Our Citizens...
Every Vermonter should be able to see a doctor when they get sick -- it's just that simple.
Health insurance costs have spiraled out of control, yet healthcare outcomes healthcare outcomes have not improved substantially. We need to get a better "bang for our buck" when it comes to healthcare in Vermont.
The bottom line of our health care system should be the health of our citizens, not the profits of some
insurance company.
For the Health of Our Democracy...
Our heritage here in Vermont is strongly rooted in the tradition of the town meeting, where all citizens have an equal voice in the choices we make as a community.
The best way to strengthen Vermont is to reinvigorate the Town Meetings in Vermont. I will call for a Statewide observance of Town Meeting, close government for the day and bring families to Town meeting to get everyone civicly engaged in issues locally and statewide that affect our lives, livlihoods, community education and wellbeing. As Thomas Jefferson warned,
"The issue today is the same as it has been throughout all history, whether man shall be allowed to govern himself or be ruled by a small elite."
For the Health of Our Environment...
As someone who grew up here in Vermont, my favorite memories as a child are running through forests, playing in streams, and enjoying the natural beauty that makes our state great.
A clean, green, and sustainable Vermont is the best legacy we can leave to our children and their children -- to all future generations of Vermonters. Special interest groups are eyeing Vermont's natural resources. We need to defend our ecosystem to ensure safe food to eat and a healthy environment. We must get serious about the threat of climate change once and for all.
We have a choice: we can sacrifice the health of our land, water, and air on the altar of recklessness and greed, or we can continue to conserve the natural beauty of Vermont and be good stewards of the land that sustains us.
