Reason for Seeking Public Office:

I have entered this campaign because I love the State of Michigan and I believe that despite the struggles it has had, we truly are a Comeback State with so much to offer.

About 16 years ago, I fell in love with Michigan, shortly after I fell in love with my wife, Bethany. I was born and went to school in California, but soon after meeting Bethany, I was fortunate to begin regular visits to Southeastern Michigan, where she had grown up. I visited frequently and enjoyed all that Michigan has to offer in every season. I knew very early on, that Michigan was the place I wanted to build my life and raise my family. We left California 5 years ago and moved permanently to Michigan--where the people are authentic, and moral and cultural values are important and respected. Even when so many others were moving out, we chose to move into Michigan, and it was one of the smartest choices we have ever made for our family.

Like so many in Michigan and throughout the country, our family has not been immune to the effects of this last recession and economic downturn. Even with long held economic principles of having a sound emergency fund, spending less, saving more and reducing debt, our family was faced with unexpected medical bills and had to make difficult financial decisions. These decisions offered us the opportunity to prioritize, streamline, and make informed, thoughtful and smart choices at home while preserving our core economic principles.

We need a government that understands that we are facing those same challenges as a state, and just as we each have to do in our homes, our state leaders need to work diligently to prioritize, streamline and make informed, thoughtful and smart choices which will move Michigan forward and make it stronger. Michigan is filled with citizens who are smart and hardworking and have made great sacrifices to get through these past few economically challenging years. Those citizens deserve a State Senator who will make smart choices in Lansing on their behalf, spending money in ways that is respectful of the hard work those funds represent, remembering that the state's money is indeed the people's money and responsible stewardship matters.

Like many others, I greatly admire and have a deep respect for President Ronald Reagan. I proudly served President Reagan in his post-presidential office, and cherish those memories and the valuable lessons I learned from him every day. Ronald Reagan always considered himself to be a Citizen-Politician and often said he went into politics, in part, to put up his hand and say, "Stop." We need more Citizen-Politicians in Lansing, and bold citizens in Michigan who are willing to say "Stop" to Career Politicians, who have lost touch with what life is like outside of the Capitol, and "Stop" to runaway spending and governmental growth.

We need new leadership to generate creative ideas and practical solutions, and need the wisdom to expand proven policies that are working, bringing ongoing opportunities for building coalitions, expanding business incentives, and focusing on jobs returning to Michigan to revitalize our state.

Over the past few years, there have been many decisions made in Lansing, with the best of intentions, but it is time for new Citizen-Politicians with a fresh perspective and excellent, efficient implementation to move Michigan forward.

We need a smaller, smarter and more efficient government--one that doesn't intrude unnecessarily in our personal or professional lives. A government that understands its limited role and remembers that "We the People" tell the government what to do and not the other way around.

This type of government can only be accomplished by electing Citizen-Politicians who will stand up for these principles in Lansing and work every day to keep government off our backs. I am running for State Senate because I am that citizen.

Together we can do all of this and more. We can restore our state to its place of respect in the nation as a leader in industry and innovation while providing safety and security for our families and our communities.
