Reason for Seeking Public Office:
Dear Voters and Residents of Florida House District 5,
I have been asked why I am running for the Florida House, District 5 in November's general election.
I can explain my decision best by telling you that what I want for District 5 is the same kind of representation that I want for myself. I want honest, effective, responsive representation for all of us. I want a representative whose main concern and only loyalty is to the people of his district.
I think that there are many people in District 5 who are tired of the same old "business as usual" approach to legislation and the lack of real response by our representatives. Sure, during the campaigns, we hear much about what each candidate plans to do and even more about how serious each candidate is about serving the people's interests.
Then, after the election, we hear very little about what laws are being considered in Tallahassee and we have little or no opportunity to give input during that process. Calls and letters to our representative go unanswered and our problems do not even warrant a return phone call or a serious effort at resolving the issue made known by the constituent.
Like last year, the legislature convenes with political parties struggling to "one up" the other and little is accomplished. The "I'll take my marbles and go home" approach to problem solving only results in another large wasteful expense borne by the taxpayers of Florida. That is not good for you nor for me.
I have lived and worked in northwest Florida my whole life. I am a small businessman, experienced in holding to a budget and meeting a payroll; I know firsthand how laws and regulations impact us all. I believe that the people of District 5 care about their livelihood, their children's education, and the wise use of our beautiful natural resources. I also believe that each of you, as taxpayers and residents, deserve to know that your concerns are important to the person who is your elected representative.
I am that man. It was my honor and privilege to have served you in 1996-98. I am proud of the service I gave and the tireless effort my staff and I gave on behalf of the people. Elect me as your representative for Florida House, District 5. You won't have to go to Tallahassee or a district office in another town to talk with me. You can just get in touch with me the same way my friends and customers have done for the past 39 years ..on my cell at 850-526-8450. I answer that phone every day and night and I did so when I was in the legislature before. I also return my messages. That accountability is why I have built a successful business. You have my word!
Running as a No Party Affiliate means that my name will not be on the ballot for the August primary. Instead, my name will appear on the ballot in the November general election. I need your help. Please discuss me and my candidacy with your family and friends. Talk about the fact that my name will appear in November. I invite you to ask people who may know me for their recommendation. I assure you that you will be proud to have me represent you and District 5 in Tallahassee.
I humbly ask for your support and your vote on November 8th.
