Reason for Seeking Public Office:

The 40th State Assembly District spans the western portion of the San Fernando Valley. It is a battleground region which is represented in Sacramento by Republicans to the north (Cameron Smyth and Audra Strickland) and Democrats to the south and east (Mike Feuer, Julia Brownley and Felipe Fuentes). I am running because the time is now for change. I am a well-qualified and electable candidate and voters are sick and tired of status quo politics. There is a great contrast between the incumbent (Bob Blumenfield) and myself and I believe that my background, experience, message and ideas for change and firm convictions resonate with the voters and will lead to victory come November.

It is a fact that our state?s finances, (with a current budget deficit of $19 billion), are in complete disarray and California is teetering on insolvency. It was a complete lack of leadership in Sacramento that results in a state with a bond rating lower than Mexico and the second highest tax burden in the country. Last year, the legislature passed the largest tax increase in the nations? history which extended the recession in California and has driven people, companies and jobs out of the state.

Also, recent studies indicate that California has about $500 billion in unfunded pension liabilities and $50 billion more in unfunded retiree health care liabilities. It is important that we have leaders who are prepared to make the difficult decisions necessary to get California through the financial mess that is the result of failed policies and ineffective leadership.

For many years, we have been bombarded by absurd legislation while more important issues such as the budget, California?s economy, failing schools, pension reform, traffic congestion, deferred infrastructure improvements, nuclear energy, offshore drilling, tourism and creating and keeping jobs are shelved because those issues require leadership and backbone.

According to a recent Field Poll, only 9% of the people surveyed said they have a favorable opinion of the State Legislature. This is not acceptable in a great state such as California. This state is known for deadlock, impasse, years of kicking the can down the street, late budgets, state IOU?s, bloated pensions, lack of accountability, wild spending sprees, tax increases, billions in free services to illegal aliens and more and this all must stop now. My candidacy represents a different option and the opportunity to cast a vote for a candidate not willing to sacrifice his morals or ethics and who will put both common sense and the best interests of the District as my top priority in the State Capitol.

I am a firm believer that there is hope for the next generation and that a good education is an important necessity for success. In the Valley, our public schools are perpetuating poor performance and that the success of charter schools needs to be encouraged and promoted throughout the City and State. As the son of an LAUSD teacher and School Principal, I am adamant that the systematic problems and failures with the school district can only be resolved by fundamental change. Breaking up the 750,000 LAUSD students into a more manageable school district is essential to the educational success for our youth.

I do not view my race as one between a Republican and a Democrat. This is a race between a candidate willing to do what is right vs. an incumbent with a proven history of doing what is easy. I firmly believe that my message of fiscal restraint, my commitment to not raise taxes, my common sense approach to solving the issues and my ability to work well with others are tools that I have in my skill set that will make me a successful Assemblyman.

I love living in California. As a second generation San Fernando Valley resident, I have had many opportunities to experience the beautiful cities, mountains, deserts and beaches that makes people across the globe smile when they hear the word, California. However, a perpetual lack of common sense, petty politics and shortsighted legislators have been and are right now killing this state incrementally and have alienated and ignored the people they represent.

I am a candidate for the Assembly because my independence, sense of right and wrong and common sense is needed today in our state capitol. I have hope and am optimistic that this state can be saved from itself and I believe that reversing decades of failure needs to be our first priority. When it comes to government, we must hold our elected officials and bureaucrats accountable for their actions and inactions.

Many people have encouraged me to step forward and fight the good fight to take back Sacramento and bring common sense and fiscal responsibility. I have accepted that challenge and am looking forward to making my case to the voters.
