Priority Issues:
Energy is no longer just a commodity.
Energy is now a homeland security issue and we must treat it that way.
I have a plan to make the State of Nevada the leader in energy self reliance.
If we use our heads and take advantage of the clean energy resources Nevada has plenty of,
we will enjoy the added benefit of cleaner air and better climate.
We must find long term solutions to making sure the entire State of Nevada
has the water it needs while protecting the less powerful counties
from short term Band Aids that bleed rural Nevada of its precious resources.
The Constitution of the USA is a great instruction manual and it reads:
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State,
the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
Nevada's public schools have been overcrowded for decades. We must demand smaller class sizes and the only way to do that is to cut wasteful spending in the schools themselves. I would like to see all tax money that is set aside for education be spent only on teachers and school buildings. Not one dollar should go towards sports, bands, etc. We should bring in corporate sponsorship for those things and raise money locally. Taxes should be spent on learning.
We need to get Trade Schools involved in our high schools with recruiting and scholarship programs. I want representatives from reputable trade schools to speak to our freshmen students about choices. Let's face it, not all kids like school and they are not motivated by the idea of 4 years of college. So if college isn't for them, why worry about getting good grades in high school? Might as well party and have fun. But, what if we gave them another choice. A trade school that would be hands on and not take 4 years to complete. What if the trade schools offered scholarships for good grades in high school? That might seem like a good reason to be successful in high school and could help keep a kid off of drugs.
We must stop using federal funding until the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) is repealed.
The schools that accept federal funds are required by the NCLB to give the military all personal information about all children in those schools. That information includes social security numbers, test scores, etc. and those things can be used to recruit your child. Here are a couple of informative links:
Mother Jones, NCLB Action Brief, CODEPINK
Labor unions are made up of working people working together to solve problems, build stronger workplaces and give working families a real voice. Unions give workers a voice on the job about safety, security, pay, benefits?and about the best ways to get the work done. Union workers earn 30 percent more each week than nonunion workers and are much more likely to have health and pension benefits. Unions give working people a voice in government.
I will lead by example and write a bill that will be innovative and progressive to help our veterans get the care they have earned. We should start by creating a mental health program for seriously ill people throughout Nevada. We have a relatively small population in our state and should be able to take care of the few that are sick and need our help.
Reason for Seeking Public Office:
I moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, from Oklahoma when I was 23 years old. I attended International Dealers School, and my first job was at the California Hotel and Casino.
I'm now 46 years old, so I've spent half my life here in Nevada, and I absolutely love it here.
I met my wife at my second casino job, Sam's Town, and proposed to her after only 3 months of dating. We were married a year or so later and have been married 21 years. We never had kids, but we do have 4 dogs and love them as family members.
We moved to Pahrump almost 7 years ago and made it our home. This place is special to us because of its love of freedom and the great people here. I was the Chairman of the Nye County Libertarian Party, a member of the Pahrump Rodeo Committee, a member of the Arena Committee, and a member of the Fairgrounds committee. I only stopped participating in these committees when I started a new job at the Las Vegas Hilton and simply was not able to attend the meetings.
I achieved two major goals in Nevada by racing cars and owning a business.
I did not know how to build race cars or web sites, and people like to ask me, "How did you do that?" I like to do things, not talk about them and not study how to do them for years on end without accomplishing much. I like getting it done.
