Awards:
Randolph County Democrat of the Year, Randolph County Democratic Executive Committee, 2006.
I've had awards for several things but the one thing that most honored me was an interview and story the Wall Street Journal did regarding my successful work in student financial aid!
Favorite President and Why:
John F. Kennedy was my favorite President. So much of my generation's ideals and goals were set under his administration.
Hobbies or Special Talents:
My work on my family genealogy is very important to me! I am because they were! There is much to learn from the "ages of my ancestors"!
Name one thing you would most like to do before you die:
My dream trip would be to visit all the origins of my ancestors.
Names of Grandchildren:
I have three wonderful grandchildren: Nicholas Adam Burns is a sweet 6-year old in kindergarten, Savannah Nicole Burns is an adorable 4-year old and Jeffrey Robert Parsons is a precious 5-year old preschooler!
Personal Hero and Why:
My personal heroes are my mother and her mother! They set great examples for me to follow. I feel I am a much better person because of their love and guidance!
Pets (include names):
I have two Jack Russell terriers, Trixie & Luke; two cats, Brandy & Kassie and two cockatiels, Kerry & Kennedy.
Priority Issues:
My platform is focused on EDUCATION, HEALTHCARE & JOBS! I also feel that as a nation and as a state, we are rapidly losing our middle-class. My priority is to work on these issues that affect so many!
Publications:
I have not published yet, but I am working on a couple of books that will weave together my ancestors, the history of the areas they lived and settled and family stories and narratives.
Reason for Seeking Public Office:
I believe in public service! I feel it is time that the PEOPLE are first again on the agenda rather than big business and special interests!
