Title: Prohibits Former Members of the Legislature from Engaging in Lobbying for Two Years After Leaving Office
Vote to concur with Senate amendments and pass a bill that prohibits former members of the state legislature from engaging in lobbying activity for two years after leaving office in Michigan.
Prohibits a former member of the Michigan Senate or House of Representatives from making expenditures or receiving compensation for lobbying for two years after leaving or resigning from office (Sec. 6).
Specifies that this prohibition applies to members of the legislature whose term of office begins on or after January 1, 2027 (Sec. 6).
Specifies that for members of the legislature who resign from office prior to January 1, 2027, the prohibition against lobbying is effective until the term of the office from which they resigned ends (Sec. 6).
Classifies a violation of this section as a misdemeanor and establishes a punishment of imprisonment for up to 90 days, a fine of up to $1,000, or both (Sec. 6).
Specifies that this act takes effect immediately upon passage (Sec. 6).
