Vote to pass a bill that authorizes the use of portable solar generation devices without utility approval or fees in New York.

Highlights:

• Exempts a portable solar generation device from interconnection or net metering requirements (Sec. 3).

• Prohibits an electric corporation from requiring a customer using a portable solar generation device to (Sec. 3):

• Obtain the electric corporation’s approval before installing or using the device;

• Pay any fee or charge related to the device or for feeding energy back into the utility electric grid; or

• Install any additional controls or equipment beyond what is integrated into the device.

• Requires that, within one year of the effective date of this act, the code be optimized to allow for portable solar generation devices to be connected to a building’s wiring through an electrical outlet, unless the device is smaller than a threshold of three hundred ninety one watts (Sec. 4).

• Specifies that his act shall take effect immediately upon passage (Sec. 5).
