Title: Authorizes the Use of Portable Solar Generation Devices Without Utility Approval or Fees
Vote to pass a bill that authorizes the use of portable solar generation devices without utility approval or fees in New York.
Exempts a portable solar generation device from interconnection or net metering requirements (Sec. 3).
Prohibits an electric corporation from requiring a customer using a portable solar generation device to (Sec. 3):
Obtain the electric corporation’s approval before installing or using the device;
Pay any fee or charge related to the device or for feeding energy back into the utility electric grid; or
Install any additional controls or equipment beyond what is integrated into the device.
Requires that, within one year of the effective date of this act, the code be optimized to allow for portable solar generation devices to be connected to a building’s wiring through an electrical outlet, unless the device is smaller than a threshold of three hundred ninety one watts (Sec. 4).
Specifies that his act shall take effect immediately upon passage (Sec. 5).
