Vote to pass a bill that authorizes use of campaign funds and other personal security measures for elected officials in Washington.

Highlights:

• Specifies that “personal security measures” may include nonstructural security devices, structural security devices, licensed security personnel and services, and cybersecurity technologies (Sec. 1).

• Authorizes political candidates to use surplus campaign funds for personal security measures to address threats or dangers that arise from their status as a candidate or elected official (Sec. 2).

• Requires that personal security measures be reasonably proportional to the scope of the danger and purchased at the normal and usual charge (Sec. 2).

• Prohibits the use of surplus campaign funds to reimburse payments made to the candidate’s spouse, domestic partner, children, relatives, relatives’ spouses, in-laws, or an entity in which any person described has a personal beneficial interest (Sec. 2).
