Title: Prohibits the Operation of a Group Home Without the Correct Documentation
Vote to pass a bill that prohibits the operation of group homes without the correct documentation in Louisiana.
Prohibits any person or entity from operating an unlicensed group home (Sec. 1).
Defines a “nonrelated individual” as two or more persons who are not related by consanguinity, marriage, or adoption (Sec. 1).
Defines an “operator” as a person or entity that owns or manages an unlicensed group home in any manner (Sec. 1).
Defines an “affiliate” as a person or entity contracted by an operator (Sec. 1).
Defines an “unlicensed group home” as any residence not licensed or permitted by any state or local authority that houses two or more residents over whom the operator exercises control over the resident's assets (Sec. 1).
Establishes a fine of $1,000 and a 6 month prison sentence if the conditions in the unlicensed group home lead to unjustifiable pain or suffering (Sec. 1).
Specifies that the offender shall be imprisoned with hard labor for a sentence of 5-40 years if the conditions of an unlicensed group home lead to death of a resident (Sec. 1).
Specifies that this act is effective on August 1, 2026 (Sec. 1).
