Title: Requires School Districts to Verify Household Income of Students Qualifying for Free Meals
Vote to pass a bill that requires school districts in Kansas to verify household income of students qualifying for free meals.
Requires school districts to verify that each at-risk student meets the requirements to qualify for free meals under the national school lunch program through direct certification of written evidence of the student’s household gross income (Sec. 1).
Requires the Kansas Department of Education to provide each school with state aid for reduced-price meals to each student (Sec. 1).
Prohibits any school district or education agency from seeking or implementing any special assistance payments unless the legislature approves (Sec. 1).
Authorizes a special council to approve or deny any request for special assistance payments while the legislature is not in session (Sec. 1).
Specifies that this Act takes effect upon passage (Sec. 2).
