Vote to pass a bill that prohibits the storage of firearms in unattended vehicles in Virginia.

Highlights:

• Defines an “unattended motor vehicle” as a vehicle left unattended on a public highway or other public property that the owner or any passenger is unable to observe (Sec. 1).

• Prohibits any individual from leaving, placing, or storing a handgun in an unattended motor vehicle within sight of any individual outside of the vehicle (Sec. 1).

• Establishes a civil penalty of up to $500 for a violation of this section, and specifies that penalties collected will be credited to the Virginia Gun Violence Intervention and Prevention Fund (Sec. 1). 

• Specifies that a violation of this section deems the relevant motor vehicle illegally parked and subject to removal (Sec. 1).
