Title: Establishes a Pilot Program for Pretrial Release
Vote to pass a bill that establishes a pilot program for pretrial release in South Dakota.
Establishes a pilot program allowing judges to place individuals charged with a misdemeanor or felony under the supervision of an officer of the court under conditions for release set by the court (Sec. 1).
Requires the Unified Judicial System to report on the results of the pilot program, including (Sec. 2):
Information on pretrial screenings and assessments;
Number of cases supervised;
Number of cases in which a supervised individual appeared for all court appearances, was charged with a new crime, or failed to report to a court date; and
Costs associated with the program.
Establishes the expiration date of the pilot program as December 31, 2027 (Sec. 3).
