Title: Repeals the Requirement for Public School Students' Home Districts to Approve a Transfer to a New District
Vote to pass a bill that repeals the requirement for a home school district to approve a student transfer to a new school district in Mississippi.
Repeals language in existing law which requires the school district from which a student’s parent or guardian requests a transfer to approve the transfer (Sec. 1).
Authorizes the transferee board to refuse a transfer request (Sec. 1).
Requires transfer requests to be approved absent good cause for a refusal (Sec. 1).
Authorizes a school district to which a student transfers to charge a fee for receiving the student (Sec. 1).
Specifies that nothing in this section precludes the Mississippi High School Activities Association from determining extracurricular eligibility of a student transferring to another school district (Sec. 1).
Specifies that the responsibility for transporting a student to their new school district falls upon the student’s parent or guardian if the receiving school district does not agree to provide transportation for the student (Sec. 1).
Specifies that this Act takes effect July 1, 2026 (Sec. 2).
