Title: Expands California Worker Adjustment and Retraining Act Requirements
Vote to concur with House amendments and pass a bill that expands California Worker Adjustment and Retraining Act requirements.
Prohibits employers from ordering a mass layoff, relocation, or termination at a covered establishment, unless the following conditions are met (Sec. 1):
Employees affected by the order receive notice of it;
The Employment Development Department, the local workforce development board, and the chief elected official of each city and county government where the termination occurred receive notice of the order;
The employer’s notice of an order includes the elements required by the federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act;
The employer’s notice of an order includes employer plans to coordinate services such as rapid response orientation;
The employer’s notice of an order includes a functioning email and telephone number of the local workforce development board;
The employer’s notice of an order includes a description of the statewide food assistance program known as CalFresh, the CalFresh benefits helpline, and a link to the CalFresh internet website; and
The employer’s notice of an order includes a functioning email and telephone number of the employer.
