Title: Authorizes Undocumented Parents to Appoint a Legal Guardian
Vote to concur with Senate amendments and pass a bill that authorizes undocumented parents to appoint a legal guardian in California.
Specifies that the bill will be known as the Family Preparedness Act of 2025 (Sec. 1).
Prohibits the collection of information and documents of students and their family members citizenship or immigration status (Sec. 3).
Requires the superintendent of a school district to report requests of information made by any employee of a law enforcement agency (Sec. 3).
Requires the local governing board of education to inform parents about their child's right to free public education and educate on the impact of bullying (Sec. 3).
Authorizes schools to have stronger standards and protections than the ones stated (Sec. 3).
Defines a local educational agency as a school district, county office of education or charter school (Sec. 3).
Prohibits school officials and employees from gathering or disclosing information on students and their families regarding citizenship and allows employees of immigration enforcement to enter non-public areas of school grounds without a valid warrant (Sec. 3.1).
Authorizes caregivers to consent or refuse medical or dental care for the child. (Sec. 4)
Requires caregivers to notify schools, health care providers, and health care services that the child no longer lives with them (Sec. 4).
