Title: Prohibits Lab Grown Meat
Vote to amend and pass a bill that prohibits lab-grown meat in Texas.
Defines “cell-cultured protein” as a food product derived from harvesting animal cells and artificially replicating those cells in a growth medium to produce tissue (Sec. 1).
Prohibits the sale of cell-cultured protein for human consumption (Sec. 2).
Specifies that this Section expires September 1, 2027 (Sec. 2).
Specifies that the definition of any of the following under Health and Safety Code may not include a cell-cultured protein (Sec. 3):
Egg;
Egg product;
Fish;
Meat;
Meat food product;
Poultry; or
Poultry product.
Requires cell-cultured products to be prominently labeled near the name of the product as either “cell-cultured,” or “lab-grown” (Sec. 4).
Specifies that this Act takes effect September 1, 2025 (Sec. 8).
