Vote to pass a bill that prohibits legislative staff from lobbying for at least a year after leaving their positions in Maine.

Highlights:

• Prohibits former employees from the legislative or executive branch from lobbying for at least a year after leaving their positions in Maine (Sec. 1-3).

• Defines “former employee from the legislative or executive branch” as the following, including (Sec. 2):

• An employee who was employed in the executive branch of this State:

• In the unclassified service, as defined in Title 5, section 7032, subsection  6‐A;

• In the classified service;

• In a position for which the salary is subject to adjustment by the Governor under Title 2, section 6; or

• In a major policy-influencing position under Title 5, Chapter 71; and

• An employee who was employed in the Legislature, including a partisan legislative employee, a nonpartisan legislative employee, a committee clerk, or an employee of the Office of the Secretary of the Senate or the Clerk of the House.

• Specifies that the provisions of this bill shall take effect January 1, 2026 (Sec. 4).
