Vote to concur with Senate amendments and pass a bill that limits how local law enforcement agencies assist federal immigration officials in Maine.
Prohibits Maine’s law enforcement agencies from investigating, detaining, or arresting an individual for immigration enforcement except under certain circumstances (Sec. 1).
Prohibits individuals detained for the sole purpose of immigration enforcement from being detained for a period longer than 48 hours (Sec. 1).
Prohibits law enforcement personnel from serving under or operating as a liaison to federal agencies (Sec. 1).
Limits the use of law enforcement office space by immigration authorities (Sec. 1).
Prohibits law enforcement personnel from transferring an individual to an immigration authority except at the direction of a court order or criminal warrant (Sec. 1).
Prohibits law enforcement personnel from taking certain investigatory actions unless an individual has been charged with or convicted of a criminal offense (Sec. 1).
Specifies that law enforcement personnel may investigate suspected violations of immigration law detected during unrelated law enforcement activity (Sec. 1).
Specifies that law enforcement personnel may cooperate with joint law enforcement task forces that are primarily unrelated to immigration enforcement (Sec. 1).
Prohibits state employees not employed for purposes related to law enforcement from inquiring about an individual’s immigration status unless necessary by law (Sec. 1).
