Title: Limits Elections Watchdog Independence
Vote to pass a bill that limits election watchdog independence in Connecticut.
Requires the State Elections Enforcement Commission to submit a nomination for executive director to either house of the General Assembly, which must then confirm or reject the nomination within 15 calendar days from the date of reference (Sec. 8).
Specifies that, in the case of a vacancy in the office of executive director of the Commission, the same process for nomination and confirmation occurs, and if confirmed, the nominee serves in the office until the end date of the original appointee’s term (Sec. 8).
Specifies that, in the case of a vacancy in the office of the executive director of the Commission outside of the General Assembly’s regular session, the Commission may fill the office until the sixth Wednesday of the next session of the General Assembly, at which time the described confirmation process will take place (Sec. 8).
