Title: Requires that K-12 School Districts Enact Policies Prohibiting the Use of Cellphones During Instructional Hours
Vote to concur with Senate amendments and pass a bill that requires that Iowa K-12 school districts enact policies prohibiting students' use of cellphones during instructional hours.
Requires that Iowa K-12 school districts enact policies prohibiting students' use of cellphones during instructional hours (Sec. 1-3).
Exempts students who have an Individualized Education Program (IEP) or 504 plan that involves accommodations using a cellphone or other device (Sec. 1-3).
Specifies that parents can also ask school districts to allow their child to keep access to their phone during class periods if they establish a “legitimate” reason related to the student’s mental or physical health (Sec. 1-3).
Specifies that the provisions of this bill shall take effect immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor (Sec. 4).
