Title: Establishes Reporting Procedures for Mistreatment During Perinatal Period
Vote to pass a bill that establishes reporting procedures for mistreatment during perinatal period in Michigan.
Establishes the Biased and Unjust Care Reporting Act in Michigan (Sec. 1).
Requires the state Department of Health and Human Services to use a validated tool to receive reports from individuals who are pregnant or in the postpartum period and have received mistreatment in their gynecological or perinatal care (Sec. 5).
Specifies requirements for proper gynecological or perinatal care, requiring that all treatment shall (Sec. 5):
Be culturally appropriate;
Maintain the patient’s dignity, privacy, and confidentiality;
Prevent harm or mistreatment; and
Meet requirements for informed consent.
Specifies that the department shall use this reporting tool to identify cases of racism in maternal care (Sec. 5).
Requires the department to provide a report on the related reporting data that does not contain identifying information about the health professionals or patients involved (Sec. 5).
