Title: Requires Public School Districts to Prohibit Delta-8 and Delta-9 Products
Vote to amend and pass a bill that requires public school districts establish policies that prohibit Delta-8 and Delta-9 products on school grounds in North Carolina, effective beginning the 2025-2026 school year.
Prohibits tobacco and hemp-derived consumable product use in school buildings, grounds, and at-school sponsored events in North Carolina (Sec. 1).
Requires governing bodies of public schools to adopt a written policy prohibiting the use of tobacco products and hemp-derived consumable products by the public school unit, with at least all of the following elements (Sec. 1):
Adequate notice to students, parents, the public, and school personnel of the police;
Posting of signs prohibiting the use of tobacco products and hemp-derived consumable products on school property; and
Requirements that school personnel enforce the policy.
Exempts schools from the provisions of this bill if tobacco products and hemp-derived consumable products are being utilized for institutional or research activities (Sec. 1).
Authorizes the Tobacco Prevention and Control Branch to work with the governing bodies of public schools to implement related policies (Sec. 1).
Specifies the provisions of this bill shall take effect beginning with the 2025-2026 school year (Sec. 8).
