Title: Amends Provisions Related to Mathematics Instruction to Require Testing Three Times Annually
Vote to pass a bill that requires K-6 math testing three times annually for students in Iowa.
Requires each school district in Iowa to assess all students enrolled in K-6 at least three times a year to determine students’ math proficiency (Sec. 3).
Specifies that if a student is not determined to be proficient in math, the school district is required to do all of the following (Sec. 3):
Determine that the student is “at-risk”;
Assess the student’s proficiency levels at least every other week;
Implement extra academic support for the student; and
Work with the student’s parents to create a personalized mathematics learning plan.
Specifies that the school district shall continue to provide “at-risk” students with the required assessments and plans under the provisions of this bill until one of the following occurs, whichever comes first (Sec. 3):
The student performs at benchmark on the statewide summative assessment; or
The student performs at benchmark on two consecutive proficiency assessments administered by the district.
Specifies that the provisions of this bill shall take effect immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor (Sec. 4).
