Vote to adopt a conference report and pass a bill that establishes requirements for filling vacant congressional senate seats in Kansas.
Establishes requirements for filling vacant congressional senate seats in Kansas (Sec. 1-8).
Establishes a legislative committee made up of the following members with the power to submit three candidates to the governor for consideration (Sec. 1-8):
The Senate president or a designee of the Senate president;
An appointee of the Senate president;
The speaker of the House or a designee of the speaker;
An appointee of the House speaker;
2 state senators selected by the Senate majority leader;
2 state representatives selected by the House majority leader;
One senator selected by the Senate vice president;
One representative selected by the House speaker pro tem;
One senator selected by the Senate minority leader; and
One House member selected by the House minority leader.
Requires that 4 of 5 appointees from legislative leadership reside in each of Kansas's four congressional districts (Sec. 1-8).
Requires that the new Senate appointee be a member of the same political party as the outgoing elected official (Sec. 1-8).
Establishes a process where a committee created by legislative leaders selects three people for the governor to consider (Sec. 1-8).
Specifies that the provisions of this bill shall take effect immediately upon its passage and publication in the Kansas registrar (Sec. 9).
