Title: Authorizes Schools to Use Therapeutic Classrooms Grant Funds for Certain Nutritional Items
Vote to pass a bill that authorizes schools to use therapeutic classrooms grant funds for certain nutritional items, including foods, vitamin and mineral supplements, and exposure to natural light in Iowa.
Authorizes the support provided by a therapeutic classroom to include the following (Sec. 1):
Supporting student access to micronutrients, vitamin supplementation, and mineral supplementation, including vitamin “D” and vitamin “K2”;
Assessing the macro-nutritional needs of students;
Providing minimally processed whole foods, including fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, and healthy animal-derived fats and proteins, including eggs, full-fat dairy products, beef, and bacon;
Restricting the use and availability of artificial food additives that may hurt activity and attention in students;
Remediating the negative impacts of excessive use of digital screens and devices on human biology;
Increasing student exposure to natural light or the light emitted by full spectrum lighting fixtures; or
Carrying out any other scientifically supported initiative that a school district reasonably believes will improve emotional, social, and behavioral health outcomes among students.
Specifies that the provisions of this bill shall take effect immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor (Sec. 2).
