A vote to pass a bill that authorizes school districts or charter schools to hire a chaplain, or bring in a volunteer chaplain

Highlights:

• Authorizes school districts or public charter schools to adopt a policy for employing or accepting as a volunteer a school chaplain to provide support, services, and programs for enrolled students, staff employed by the school, and parents of the enrolled students. (Sec. 2).  

• Specifies that school districts or public charter schools who employ or accept a volunteer chaplain shall determine the selection criteria for the school chaplain in the school policy. (Sec. 2).

• Specifies that chaplains are not required to be certified or have credentials by the state department of education (Sec. 2).
