Title: Establishes a State Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) Taskforce

Vote to pass a bill that establishes a state Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) task force in Idaho.

Highlights:

  • Requires the legislature to form a Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) prior to July 1, 2025 (Sec. 1).

  • Requires 3 members of the Department to be from the state House of Representatives and be appointed by the speaker of the house (Sec. 1). 

  • Requires 3 members of the Department to be from the state senate and be appointed by the president pro tempore (Sec. 1).

  • Requires 3 members of the Department to be legislative members from the joint finance-appropriations committee, which must include (Sec. 1):

    • 1 member from the senate;

    • 1 member from either the House of Representatives or the Senate.

  • Requires DOGE task force members to be appointed by July 1, 2025 (Sec. 1).

  • Requires DOGE task force members to serve until November 30, 2026 (Sec. 1).

  • Establishes 1-year terms for DOGE task force members with appointments occurring annually on or before November 30th (Sec. 1).

  • Authorizes DOGE task force members to be reappointed (Sec. 1).

  • Requires 1 member from both the senate and the House of Representatives to serve as co-chairs of the Department (Sec. 1).

  • Requires the DOGE task force to meet at least twice a year with a minimum of 5 members (Sec. 1). 

  • Authorizes the DOGE task force to appoint a maximum of 2 non-legislative, unpaid advisors (Sec. 1).

  • Authorizes the DOGE task force to review and study governmental matters for the sake of ensuring fiscal responsibility and preventing waste (Sec. 1).

  • Authorizes the use of artificial intelligence and other resources for the sake of the review by the DOGE task force (Sec. 1).

  • Specifies that the DOGE task force shall be dissolved on November 30, 2029 (Sec. 1).

  • Specifies that the provisions of this bill are void on and after December 1, 2029 (Sec. 2).

  • Specifies that the effective date of this bill is immediately after the Governor's signature (Sec. 3).
