Title: Requires Attorney General to Review Proposed Ballot Issues
Vote to pass a bill that requires the state attorney general to review proposed ballot issues for conflicts with federal law or the Constitution in Arkansas.
Authorizes the attorney general to reject an entire ballot title and petition if the issue being voted on conflicts with the US Constitution, or federal statutes or is misleading to the voter (Sec. 1).
Prohibits a sponsor from submitting multiple initiative petitions or referendum petitions that conflict with one another unless (Sec. 2):
The petition is certified and the new submission is after the date of the next general election following the certification; or
If the petition is rejected the sponsor may submit a petition which conflicts with the rejected petition.
Requires the Attorney General to reject all petitions that are submitted in violation of this section (Sec. 2).
Specifies that the provisions of this bill shall take effect immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor (Sec. 3).
