Title: Establishes National Guard Scholarship Opportunities
Vote to pass a bill that establishes a new scholarship program for National Guard members pursuing credentials through education programs in Iowa.
Establishes a new scholarship program for National Guard members pursuing credentials through education programs approved by the adjutant general that are not associate’s or higher-level degrees (Sec. 2).
Establishes the National Guard Service Professional Qualification scholarship program within the College Student Aid Commission (Sec. 2).
Specifies the program provides scholarships to members of the Iowa National Guard who are participating in an educational program leading to a credential that is approved by the adjutant general and offered by a community college, an institution of higher learning under the state board of regents, or an accredited private institution (Sec. 2).
Requires the adjutant general to publish and maintain a list of approved educational programs (Sec. 2).
Defines “credential” as a postsecondary certificate or other competency-based credential that is not authorized for federal student aid, but does not include an associate degree or any degree beyond an associate degree (Sec. 2).
Specifies that the provisions of this bill shall take effect immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor (Sec. 2).
