Vote to concur with House amendments and pass a bill that requires battery producers and importers to implement an Illinois EPA-approved battery stewardship plan starting in 2026.

Highlights:

• Establishes Portable and Medium-Format Battery Stewardship Act (Sec. 1). 

• Requires individuals  who sell, offer for sale, or distribute (rather than only sell or distribute), covered batteries or battery-containing products containing one or more covered batteries in or into the State to implement and participate in a battery stewardship plan (Sec. 1). 

• Establishes that the Illinois Pollution Control Board may adopt rules regarding certain labeling requirements in regards to battery labeling (Sec. 1). 

• Repeals a certain provision regarding rechargeable batteries in the Environmental Protection Act (Sec. 1).
