Title: Limits Driver License Requirements in Employment
Signed by Governor Gavin Newsom
Title: Limits Driver License Requirements in Employment
Vote to concur with House amendments and pass a bill that limits driver license requirements for employment unless necessary for the job in California.
Prohibits employers from including any statement in job postings or employment materials that an applicant must have a driver’s license unless the employer reasonably expects the duties of the position to require driving and the employer reasonably believes that satisfying that job function using an alternative form of transportation would not be comparable in travel time or cost (Sec. 1).
Defines “alternative form of transportation” to include (Sec. 1):
Using a ride-hailing service;
Using a taxi;
Carpooling;
Bicycling; or
Walking.
Specifies that the provisions of this bill shall take effect immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor (Sec. 1).
