Vote to pass a bill that prohibits deceptive, mandatory hidden fees in Minnesota.

Highlights:

• Prohibits hidden or deceptive mandatory fees in Minnesota to ensure consumers have fair, upfront pricing for the following, including (Sec. 1):

• Event tickets;

• Restaurant meals;

• Hotels; and

• Credit cards.

• Defines “mandatory fees” to include but not be limited to a fee or surcharge that (Sec. 1):

• Must be paid to purchase the goods or services being advertised;​

• Is not reasonably avoidable by the consumer; or​

• A reasonable individual would expect to be included in advertised goods or services.

• Specifies that mandatory fees do not include taxes imposed by a​ government entity on the sale, use, purchase, receipt, or delivery of the goods or services (Sec. 1).

• Specifies that the provisions of this bill shall take effect January 1, 2025 (Sec. 2).
